Madhu said, 'Oh tree, let me have different types of food. Nothing else.'
After Madhu wished for different types of food, a basket full of laddoos appeared immediately. He happily started eating them but soon got bored. Then he thought of colourful fruits and baskets of fruits appeared. He ate grapes, mangoes, apples, bananas, jackfruit, melons, guavas, oranges and many more.
As he was eating, he suddenly got hiccups. He wanted water.
Madhu asked the tree for water but the tree reminded him that he had wished only for food, not water. He tried drinking sharbat, kheer and badam milk instead, but his hiccups didn't stop. Finally, he asked the tree to make all the food disappear and give him water instead. A jug of water appeared and his hiccups stopped.
Explanation
(1) The chapter describes how after Madhu's wish, first laddoos appeared, then when he got bored, fruits appeared, and then savouries appeared. The tree granted all his food wishes. (2) The chapter shows Madhu's desperation when he couldn't get water because of his limited wish. He learned that water is essential and no other drink can replace it.
