📖 Your Story

You have joined the Central Pollution Control Board's regional laboratory in Delhi. The lab monitors water quality of the Yamuna River and industrial effluents. Your supervisor assigns you to the conductivity analysis section where you'll measure solution conductivities, determine cell constants, and calculate molar conductivities to assess pollution levels and identify contaminants.

What You'll Learn

  • Understand the relationship between resistance, resistivity, conductance, and conductivity.
  • Learn to determine cell constant using standard KCl solutions.
  • Calculate molar conductivity from conductivity measurements.
  • Distinguish between metallic (electronic) and electrolytic (ionic) conductance.
  • Understand factors affecting conductivity of electrolytic solutions.

How to Play

1Select a solution sample from the rack and place it in the conductivity cell.
2Set up the Wheatstone bridge and balance it to measure resistance.
3Use the cell constant to convert resistance to conductivity.
4Calculate molar conductivity using the formula Λm = κ/c.
5Compare results across different concentrations and electrolyte types.
